BUKIT MERTAJAM: Umno’s 17,000-strong members in Permatang Pauh have been told to stop sympathising with PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Permatang Pauh Umno division chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Abdul Majid said PKR had been relying on sympathy votes since the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat fell to the PKR in 1999.

“If all 17,000 Permatang Pauh Umno members remain loyal to us, and if we can attract about 10,000 non-Malay voters, we can definitely defeat Anwar,” he said when meeting his division’s 92 branch leaders here on Tuesday night.

Abdul Jalil said during the 1999 general election, Anwar’s wife Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail received sympathy votes because of Anwar’s bruised-eyed photographs.

“Later, in the 2004 general election, the voters sympathised with Wan Azizah because of Anwar’s imprisonment.

“In the recent March general election, they once again sympathised because Anwar was disqualified from active politics until April as a result to his earlier corruption conviction,” he said. [more]

  1. It is not sympathy but love for Anwar. In fact I sympathise with Abdul Jalil Abdul Majid for being so ignorant of current mood of public. Public hate your party as much as they hate satan. To us UMNO and BN is the other twin of satan.

We will never forgive your party, Jalil. Please stand against Anwar so that we could humiliate you with our 100% votes supporting Anwar.
